Introduction of the difference between Service and Consist

Service is a passenger or freight trains providing service based on the timetable. Passenger trains will only stop at the platforms providing loading or unloading of passengers. Freight trains will only stop at yards so that they can perform loading or unloading operations. Service can move from stations to stations. So service will come from the inbound station or go to the outbound station. The communication is active mode, which means service will call you. Service can be decoupled, but can only be coupled as the passive side not the active side, in another word, any consists can connect to service but no service can connect to others.

Consist is static connected train set without the right of providing services. So there’s no concept of passenger or freight for them. Consist can only move in current station. The communication is passive mode, which means you must send instructions to consist.

Transformations can be made between service and consist.

On the dispatching desktop, each train has a label. On the label there’re several letters indicate the engine or functional train in the service or consist:
For example: C:100 E, S:A146 L. Please tell the meaning after reading the explanations.
C: means it is a consist.
S: means it is a service.
Following them is an ID to identify them. After the ID:
E: means there is engineering car in the service or consist.
S: means there is snow plow in the service or consist.
L: means the service or consist has engine power (e.g. locomotive)
E S L may appear in combination.
